PERCEPTION - Session Three (Part III)
The last activity we engaged in last session (reminder - 'What you see, when someone says - Santa Clause?' etc.), needs feedback.
Thinking back to the two theories regarding perception and the cognitive sciences, choose TWO items from the activities list, and explain, comment on the blog, how one theory applies to you 'seeing' that item, and the other 'theory' the other one.

Ok, well, how we percieve Santa has been greatly influenced on by our upbringing, the mass media, our own oppinions and many many other things. For example, I, as an individual, associate Santa to nice things, pressents, my cozy fireplace, my late cat, my family, apple and cinamon tea, movies, winter, snow, reindeers, sugar, spice and everythong nice! I just love winter and I love the winter holidays and whatever happes, that will never ever change. Not one tiny tad! It's a context I have carved into my brain and it will not easilly do away.
When someone talks about celebrities, I just hear that little ka-ching! in my head, i associate fame with money, but right afterwards, I see the nasty faces of drud abuse, rehab, depression, alcohol abuse, AIDS...and i realize that being famous is not all that glam, i have more that one point of looking at a celebriyty, I see the worms inside the perfectly shiny outside of the apple (what is it with me and apples today?!)
Well...I got the yawnies, so it's time for me to stop conteplating and tiring the truly unfortunate reader of my own ideas, and simply wish you all sweet dreams and go top bed already :]

many has a name! always.
aleksandra - wonderful relpy; but have one question: when distingushing between the two theories of perception, are you at all times aware of what each one 'does' to perception? or?
I will use the bottom up theory to explain my point of view on the parcel.
It reminds me of Chritstmas, my birthday and New Years, because that's when the big packages forom Australia arrive with out birthday presents and the New Year's and Christmas cards. It aso reminds me of presents, and the joy all these things bring. I also see a postman in an uniform dropping it off in front of my door.
The reason that i see theis when this word is mentioned is because of my previous experience with parcels and the thngs the bring my way.
The top down theory.. I'll use it with the celebrity.
I see a perfect male... Super smile, great body, the girls want him, the guys want to be him. He has a lot of money and is always smiling, always looking his best. He's very succesful and has a lot of money. He is always dressed in th best clothes, he dines in the best restaurants, drives the best cars, goes to the nmost bautiful plaqces on Earth, has the best girls always by hs side and lives in the most glorious house in Hollywood Hills. I have never sen a real celebrity in my life (of course, I do not mean those fake wannabe macedonian so-called "stars", they make me sick). I have only the picture of them presented in Teen Vogue, on VH1 and E!Online. Maybe their life isn't really all that good (in fact, we all know that most of the time it really isn't),but still this is the first thing I envision to the mention of "celebrity"
and what of the two theories of perception?
